Locum Destination Review - Issue 15
The journal of record for the global destination industry
Editorial
Welcome to the Spring issue of Locum Destination
Review. After a stop-start frosty winter, the daffs are out on the kerbside,
the sun is (intermittently) shining, and regeneration is upon us.
Appropriately enough, because regeneration is one of
the centrepieces of this issue of Locum Destination Review. CABE’s outspoken
chairman, Sir Stuart Lipton, discusses his dual role - developer and
regulator - with Locum’s James Alexander. And green planner Jonathan
Smales looks optimistically at a future for environmentally-rooted planning.
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has agreed to answer
Locum’s questions about London’s Olympic Bid, Tourism, ‘Cool Britannia’
and more. Some of her observations may surprise you.
This issue pays particular attention to the Urban planning
and architectural sectors. Peter Murray focuses on the City of London,
while Anna Brown’s eye roams across city skylines the globe over. Meanwhile,
Professor Michael Parkinson lays out his suggestions for Britain’s Core
Cities.
Dan Anderson’s Economics Without Tears column shows
us how to split a restaurant bill and Jess Harris is in the marketing
business - predicting boomtime for market traders everywhere.
Over in Canada, many of Jess’ trading tips are already
bearing fruit in Toronto’s historic Waterfront District. We take a peek
at how they do it over there.
And John Nurick’s Web Sight takes a wry look down under
at the Sydney Botanic Gardens’ internet presence.
With all our regular columns and features, we
hope that you find this issue of Locum Destination Review will bring
warm southerly winds to your desktop.
