Locum Destination Review - Issue 14

The journal of record for the global destination industry

Editorial

Welcome to this festive issue of Locum Destination Review. Overindulgence is a sin often associated with this time of year, so feast your eyes and gorge your minds with the bumper offering of articles which we have served up for you.

December 17th 1903. Orville Wright made that historic 12-second flight. In the century since, powered flight has touched our lives in ways unimaginable to the Wrights – both exciting (the Moon landings) and horrifying (Hiroshima). To mark the centenary, Locum Destination Review has commissioned several landmark articles. Sir Richard Branson muses on the impact that powered flight has had on his life. Ted Inman, director of the Duxford Museum, looks forward to another hundred years. Noel Sweeney asesses the impact of the low-cost airlines, while George Scurry remembers his time at Concorde’s controls.

Elsewhere, we also mark the winter season with a contribution from Geoffrey Spanner on his Snoasis project, which hopes to bring year-round winter sports to East Anglia. Dan Anderson takes a look at the most popular circus attraction in the globe, the Cirque de Soleil.

Tim Ambrose assesses the relationship between Tourism and Britain’s Heritage, while Jess Harris looks at museums’ new love for special one-off exhibitions.

Packed, too, with all our regular features - My Favourite Destination, Economics Without Tears, Brandwatch, Under The Microscope, Web Sight, Book reviews… – we hope that this magazine will fill your stocking for a few weeks of cheer.

Happy New Year
